Synopsis
“I got you something,” my friend said handing me a couple of pages stapled together.
“What is it?” I asked.
“I paid someone to do your horoscope,” he said, a big smile spreading across his face. “Read it.”
As I scanned the horoscope, I was surprised to see how accurate it was to my personality and my life.
“This is amazing!” I said, noticing his smile getting even larger until it became a big derisive laugh.
“Sorry man,” he said, “it’s just a black rainbow…I’m just messing with you.”
“A what? Closed quote I asked.
And that’s what I first discovered that people can draw us in by telling us both sides of a story that is generic, positive, and also deprecating enough to make us believe almost anything.
